Turkish hospitality is famous around the world. On the Turkish Riviera, guests are treated with warmth, respect and genuine interest. Locals are proud of their culture and enjoy sharing it with visitors.
A friendly greeting, a smile and a short "Merhaba" (hello) or "Teşekkür ederim" (thank you) go a long way. Even a few words in Turkish are always appreciated, even if you do not speak the language fluently.
People on the Turkish Riviera are generally very helpful. If you need directions, recommendations or advice, do not hesitate to ask. In hotels, restaurants and shops, English is widely spoken, and in many places you will also find staff who speak German, Russian or Dutch.
Small gestures of politeness, such as saying hello when entering a shop or thanking the staff after a meal, are an important part of everyday life and always well received.
Respect for Culture & Tradition
Türkiye is a modern country with deep cultural and religious roots. On the Turkish Riviera, holidaymakers can dress and behave in a relaxed way, especially in hotel resorts and along the beach promenades.
When visiting mosques, historical sites or local villages, more modest clothing is recommended. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and women are asked to wear a headscarf inside a mosque. Shoes are always removed before entering a prayer area.
Before taking photos of people, it is polite to ask first. Many locals are happy to be photographed, but privacy should always be respected, especially with women, older people and children.
Public displays of affection are less common than in some European countries. A respectful, relaxed attitude is the best way to enjoy the local culture and to feel welcome everywhere.
During the call to prayer, visitors are welcome to observe respectfully, but there is no obligation to participate.

Food, Drinks & Tipping
Turkish cuisine is an important part of the local culture. Try family-run restaurants and traditional local dishes whenever possible. Many meals are freshly prepared and served in a traditional way.
Tipping is optional but appreciated for good service. In restaurants, around 5–10% is common if you are happy with the service.
